We finally finished our Pinwheel Picnic Quilt and we couldn’t be happier about it. Just looking at it and playing with the three dimensional pinwheels makes us happy. And now that the pattern is finished, you can make one for yourself to use in all of your summer gatherings, or just for yourself to lie upon under a shade tree.
The quilt is made from Moda’s “Glamping by MaryJane” fabric line and is really just a series of interlocking large pinwheels. Then we added the folded fabric 3-D pinwheels for interest and pizzazz. This fabric line is very retro and so fun–we remember seeing some of these prints (especially the daisies) in great-grandma’s linen cupboard. The vintage campers make us want to grab our flashlights and chocolate bars and start telling ghost stories under the stars. This pattern is a snap and it all goes together more quickly than you can imagine.
We found the perfect flannel backing at the Riley Blake warehouse. By the way, did we mention that we love to back our quilts with flannel? It is an often requested favorite and makes them extra cozy.
We now have all of these fabrics and the pattern for sale in our store. Or you can get the whole kit, including the fabric, pattern and backing, and save a bundle.
