We Made It: Painted Wood Barn Stars

This week, we decided to switch things up and do our quilting with paint and wood instead of fabric.  We were recently chosen as ADORNit “It” Girls, which means we get to show you a bunch of fun stuff for the next few months.

As part of our swag, we got these unfinished birch plywood Barn Stars.  The design is routed into the wood, so you don’t have to do anything but fill in the blanks.

We used acrylic craft paints and regular brushes.  For the lines of the design, we used metallic gold paint.  We thought this would give some dimension and sparkle to the design.

No need to be too careful at this point.  Just make sure it’s well-covered in the lines, because you won’t want to try to paint in there later.

We also painted the sides of the wood with the gold to finish off the edges.

Next, we just painted on the top, one section and one color at a time.  This part was interesting, because we both ended up with different designs than we intended.  Diane’s Puzzle Star is bordered in silver with a pattern in white circles.

The star points are dark brown with gold and blue stripes, and the pinwheel is gray and aqua blue with silver polka dots.  It’s a perfect match for her living room!

Audrey’s Martha Washington Star is bordered in Caribbean blue, with aqua blue, gray, and goldenrod yellow.

This will make a great addition to Audrey’s mini quilt collage in her sewing corner.

We love how these turned out!

We had a great time painting these, and it didn’t even take that long.  These can hang on the wall, or sit on a mantle or ledge.  The best part is that you can customize the colors any way you like!  These are available to order in a few different sizes here: ADORNit Wood Barn Stars
