Let’s get started on a new quilt! 🦕 🌸 🦖 We started with one Willow jelly roll and a D is for Dinosaur panel to make a twin size quilt for my Dino-loving teenager. She loves dinosaurs and most of these colors and said the pink was acceptable since it’s more toward coral.

I designed a block based around a size that fit around the panel pieces and utilized the jelly roll strips as borders. Next, I designed a second block that uses the jelly roll strips and a white background fabric. I added white sashing between the blocks to get to a twin size and give the blocks some breathing room.

Next, I used my Stripology XL ruler to cut the strips to size and made all of the dinosaur blocks. In Part 2 I’ll show you the window frame blocks and start laying things out.

Here’s part 2 of making a throw pillow using blocks from our Rockstar Quilt. (Check out part 1 for the quilting + pattern and fabric info). I added a simple envelope back to the pillow front, trimmed the corners close to the stitching, turned it inside out, and stuffed with a pillow form.

Watch us convert blocks from our Rockstar Quilt pattern into a quilted throw pillow! We used one star block, four diamond blocks, and four outside border pieces to make a 20” block. Next, we quilted a diagonal grid with the walking foot, and lastly we used a square ruler to trim everything.

We’ve made a couple of other versions of this quilt, but the fabric I designed for the cover quilt wasn’t yet available for the pattern release last year. I finally got around to making the cover quilt, and I think it turned out way better than the mockup!

This pattern is written for yardage (as shown here), with an option to use one fat quarter per star (as shown on the back cover of the pattern). Everything is traditionally pieced.
