Make This: English Paper Piecing Tutorial
Today we’re going to quickly show you how to do English paper piecing. All you will need is fabric, paper pieces in the shapes you want, and a needle and thread. Optionally, you can use a sewing machine to piece together bigger shapes.
Put paper piece (pin if needed) on wrong side of fabric and cut fabric about 1/4″ larger on all sides of shape.
Fold the raw edges over the paper and sew with large basting stitches through fabric and paper. Repeat with all shapes. Lay all pieces in desired arrangement.
To sew paper pieces together by hand:
Sew them together with a whip stitch, enough to hold firmly, but not so tight it pulls or puckers.
Press the shape well.
Clip the basting stitches and remove the paper pieces.
Pin and sew design to fabric.
To sew paper pieces together by machine:
After basting individual shapes, press and remove paper pieces.
Sew together along pressed lines.
Pin and sew design to fabric.
