Woven Farm Quilt

We have a lovely bit of quilt inspiration for you today.  This is the Woven Farm Quilt, designed and made by us.  It’s not necessarily a pattern right now, since it was one of those quilts that was made to suit a specific need.

We had a stack of 5″ charm squares from Joel Dewberry’s Birch Farm line in need of a project.  Since there weren’t a lot of squares to work with, we made this lap quilt for the chair in Audrey’s master bedroom.  We had a couple of prints from the line on the bolt at the time, so those filled in for the sashing, borders, binding, and most of the backing.  We’ve also used both of those prints for curtains.

We used Electric Quilt 7 to make the quilt design.  It was the easiest way to figure out the sizes of the woven sashing pieces, and although it’s possible that there’s a way to do it with less piecing, we were less inclined to figure it out on this one.  Sometimes with personal projects it’s just easier that way.

For the quilting, we used spray basting and the walking foot on our Bernina to do a series of straight lines.

Nearly all of the fabric in this quilt is from the same line, but we did throw in a few coordinates here and there to fill in the gaps.

This strip on the back is a fun little surprise.  It also made the backing plenty big for quilting.

We just love the texture of a freshly-finished quilt!

This little beauty ended up about 48″ x 48″ and fits the accent chair perfectly.  One more quilt knocked off the WIP list!
