Conservatory Quilt Pattern

We are so glad to finally be able to announce that our newest quilt pattern, the Conservatory Quilt, is here!  We have put a lot of work into this pattern, and we think you will love it as much as we do.  This is the queen size, using Moda’s Bella solids for the white (we always use 97, but we recently heard that’s only recommended for dyeing, not piecing) and their black cross weave for the dark gray.  The prints are all from the new Wildwood fabric line by Rifle Paper Co. for Cotton + Steel.

This pattern is one that was originally written for a quilt kit for Craftsy (now Bluprint) called the Potting Shed Quilt.  It was one of the first kits we made with them, but it’s taken us the longest to rerelease the pattern.  We’re not sure why, but maybe because we didn’t fully resonate with the first version?  Since we still get requests for the pattern, we figured it was time to take another look at it.

We eliminated the largest outer border, since it’s not really our thing, and made this pattern fat quarter friendly.  When we visit a local quilt shop, we like to browse around and pick out a handful of our favorite fat quarters, so we like to write our patterns to support our shopping habits.  We’ve also added instructions for a smaller throw size and a large decor pillow.

We sent this pattern through a dozen testers to make sure we didn’t miss anything.  Here’s what they had to say about it:

I really enjoyed working with the pattern.  I thought the instructions were well written and liked the detailed cutting charts.

It was very easy to read and follow the directions. In fact, I loved it so much I am totally planning to try to squeeze time for a throw size in sometime soon.

I really enjoyed making the pillow version. The pattern was easy to follow and came together perfectly.

I loved the pattern – it’s fast & lovely!

I really enjoyed making this pattern! It is a controlled scrappy type of quilt, which appeals to my need to keep colors balanced in a quilt. The blocks are large so a throw sized quilt comes together very quickly, and the pattern is great for a beginner quilter looking to expand into working with bias edges and diagonally assembled rows. I think the instructions were sufficient and not too wordy, which works very well with the diagrams provided.

See below for their lovely photos!  Pictured are the pillow and throw sizes.

Aren’t those fabulous?  It’s so fun to see the same pattern done in a wide variety of styles.  Get your copy of the Conservatory Quilt here:
