Diane’s Woodland Wander Quilt

If you’ve been following us on Instagram, you will have seen the teasers of this quilt in process.  This is Diane’s version of the Woodland Wander Quilt that she made for the quilt along.  (Grand Prize information here if you missed it!)

Diane used hoarded woodland-themed prints from her stash for the trees.  There is a lot of Cotton+Steel, Rifle Paper Co, and other goodies mixed in.  The background is Moda’s Cross Weave in Sand.  It has a lot of variation in color and texture, but subtly so.

She added an extra row and column to make the quilt a bit bigger without adding the borders.  You will also notice the funky handmade tassels (they’re so in right now!) added to the top and bottom edges.

Here’s a closer look at those fancy tassels.  She used all sorts of matching blues, greens, and natural colors of yarn, Perle cottons, and crochet thread to make them.  The backing is another stash find in snuggly flannel that matched nicely.

For the quilting, we did vertical straight line.  We used regular thread for half of it, and the lines in between used 12 weight thread in matching blues and greens.  It adds a fun extra detail and texture.  Since we used a cross woven fabric for the background, it almost blends in as part of the weave.

Here’s another beauty shot under the grape arbor.  We think it fits right in with nature.

Now we both have a holiday and regular themed Woodland Wander Quilt.  Actually, Audrey has three!  We do love this pattern, but maybe time to move on?  We hope you have enjoyed quilting along with us this summer.  It’s been a real hoot.  Don’t forget, the deadline for the grand prize entry is next Monday, so get your entries in!  Leave us a comment letting us know which pattern we should do for our next sew along event.  Weekend Market Tote?  Artist Portfolio?
