Nordic Frost Quilt Along: Week 4

We’re on the home stretch in the Nordic Frost Quilt Along! By now, you should have finished piecing all of the blocks. Let’s get that quilt top together!

Start by laying out the blocks that make up the center snowflake motif of the quilt. The corner blocks are all the same, so you don’t have to worry which one goes in which corner. However, make sure you get the arrow strips and the center star oriented in the correct spots. Piece the blocks into rows, and then sew the rows together.

Some of these seams start to get a little bit bulky, and even though the seams are nested, it doesn’t always work quite right when there are a lot of layers. You can help feed the fabric with a sewing stiletto or tweezers (affiliate links*). We have a pair of curved tweezers that work really well for this. Check out how it works in this video:

Add the border pieces on the left and right sides, press everything really well, and the center section of the quilt is complete.

So cute! With the center snowflake complete, the next step is to make the stripe sections. If you’re following the Nordic Frost pattern, the strips for your stripes will already be pieced and cut to length. If you’re following the Piece & Love book like us, you will do that step now. Start by trimming the selvages:

Then, just sew the strips together on the ends and trim each stripe to length. You can just piece the strips into pairs if you don’t want to piece them all into one strip. Once all of the stripes are cut to length, lay them out in order to keep yourself organized.

Before sewing the stripes together, pin them together. Sew all of the stripes together, then sew the stripe sections to the quilt center to complete the quilt top.

Doesn’t it look so magical in all that freshly fallen snow? Here’s another look at our finished quilt top.

Once you have completed the Nordic Frost quilt top, you are finished with Week 4.

Check back here next Monday for Week 5. We will be finishing these quilt tops, so get ready to snuggle under it! In the meantime, you can share your progress in a couple of different ways:
