Sprinkles Quilt Along: Week 3

It’s Week 3 in the Sprinkles Quilt Along! Last week, we made the candle and frosting sections of the quilt. Today, we will assemble the cupcake wrapper section and put the whole quilt top together. This section is where the template pieces will be used, but even with those four blocks, it’s a fairly straightforward sew.

We’ll start with the template pieces to get that out of the way. If you haven’t already transferred the dot markings from the templates to the cut pieces, now is the time to do that. Here’s a video showing how it’s done:

We use a small size hole punch to punch out the marks, then a Frixion marker (affiliate link*) to mark the corresponding spot on the fabric. The marker erases with heat, but we still like to make as small of a mark as possible. Next, line up the dots and sew together on the diagonal line. Since these pieces are quite long and skinny, we suggest pinning, sewing, and pressing carefully.

Once all four of these blocks are done, it’s time to lay them out with all of the other pieces of the cupcake wrapper section. Since this is the last section of the quilt, these are all of the remaining pieces of the quilt top. Those template pieces give the cupcake wrapper such a nice shape, don’t you think?

You know the drill by now: sew these pieces into rows, then sew the rows together. Lastly, sew the wrapper section to the bottom edge of the frosting section from Week 2 to complete the quilt top.

So cute! Doesn’t it just make you want to have a party? Before we can do that, we will meet you back here next week in the final week of the Sprinkles Quilt Along to turn this quilt top into a fully finished quilt.

In the meantime, you can share your progress in a couple of different ways:

  • On Instagram, use both #sprinklesqal and #theclothparcel hashtags in your post. You can also tag us @theclothparcel.
  • In our private Facebook group, you can share photos in a post or in the comments of any of our posts. You can also ask for help or advice there.

Also, don’t forget that the Nordic Frost Quilt Along is coming your way at the end of November. This quilt pattern is found in our Piece & Love Book and as an individual pattern. This will be our last quilt along this year, and likely for the foreseeable future. We’ve been quilting up a storm this year, and quite frankly we’re ready for a bit of a break!
