We Made It: Pixel Hearts Pillow

Diane’s front porch bench needed a Valentine-themed pillow for the upcoming holiday.  We used our Patchwork by Fusible Grid Tutorial to whip up this gorgeous and easy pixel hearts pillow, so check that post for the particulars on a project like this.  Arrange your squares in the design you want, and fuse them down.  It really is pretty simple.

This pillow cover was made to fit a pillow insert from IKEA, about 16″ x 26″.  Each of the patchwork blocks is cut 2″ square.

We love these little Steamfast travel irons (affiliate link*) for small projects or classes away from home.

Once everything is fused, fold each row together and sew the seams.

Start with either vertical or horizontal rows, and do all of those first.

Press flat before moving on.  It should look something like this at this point.

Then, repeat for the rows the other way.

This is how the back should look when you’re done.

And the front looks like it took you hours!  Another nice thing about using the fusible grid for pillows is the added stability.  It’s like having interfacing to give your pillow a little more body.

We finished this one off with a simple fold-over back.  You can finish it with a zipper if you prefer.

You could quilt the front if you want that look, but you really don’t need to with the fusible in there. It’s almost like a quilt-as-you-go project.

Here it is, all finished and ready for love.

This would be an easy afternoon project with the fusible grid (affiliate link).  You could make it without using the grid, but you would definitely need to quilt the front before making the pillow.  These little seasonal pillow covers are a fun way to change your look for each holiday. *This post may contain affiliate links.  View our disclosure policy here.
