Make This: Perfect PJ Pants + Kids Pattern

Perfect PJ Pants 5 title web

For the past three years, I have made simple flannel pajama pants for all of my kids.  Usually, I start making them around Thanksgiving so the kids get to enjoy them all the way up to Christmas and beyond.  I like to use holiday-themed fabric, so it seems pointless to wait until Christmas to put them to use!Perfect PJ Pants 2 webbI started out using another pattern, but I was bothered by the length of the legs, so I have drafted these to fit my own preferences.

My kids love these pajama pants!  They are so cozy for those cold winter nights, and comfy enough for lounging around the house on Saturday morning.

The best part of these pants is that they are a breeze to make.  You could easily sew a pair in an afternoon, or maybe two or three!

  1. Thank you for a free pattern. I’ve never used Craftsy before so please excuse me if I should know the answer to these questions. The pattern says “6 months to 8 years” but only 1 size printed out. The number “5” is in the corner, are the pants size 5? There are no instructions. I can figure it out but I would think there is a prefered order of assembly. What is the cuff for? A hem, a facing, a turn up, the photo is not clear.

    1. Hi Deb, not sure why only one size printed. The sizes are nestled within each other, with each size in a different color. There is no cuff on the Perfect PJ Pants, so I’m not sure what you mean.

  2. I am in love with this pattern! I do have a quick question… how easy would it be to adjust this for a couple ages over 8 (like 10 years old)?
I want to make these for all my nieces and nephews but some are a little older than 8. Also, might be a little taller, but I imagine leg length is easy to adjust. Just more concerned about the crotch/seat area.

    Thanks!!!

    1. If they are just a little bit bigger than 8, you can probably still use the biggest size and lengthen the crotch piece just a little bit. These pants have a very loose fit. If you have access to pants that fit them, you can use those for a size reference.

  3. What’s the formula for cutting waist elastic? I’m making these for out of town grandkids and wonder the best way to measure and cut.
